The Quinoa Quest
A look into the current and future markets
Compared to the world trade volume of rice (more than 40 million tonnes), and compared to the local consumption in the world’s largest producing countries (55 thousand tons in both Bolivia and Peru), trade volumes for quinoa are still relatively small (84.4 thousand tons in 2015). In the next decade, this trade volume will go up tremendously and quinoa will become available to consumers in many more countries and markets. This is just one of the cool insights we collected during our Global Quinoa Quest tour.
Globally Cool made a scan of the global quinoa market for the Trade for Development Centre from Belgium.
Quinoa comes from Peru and Bolivia and has become a very popular and healthy grain.
The market scan helps the producers and exporters in Peru and Bolivia to better understand market trends and developments. And to help them to develop an export marketing strategy.
3 cool facts I like the most:
- We interviewed almost 80 importers all over the world. From Canada to Australia and from Argentina to Germany.
- We visited a few of the worlds’ leading food trade fairs.
- We forecast the market development towards 2025.
This market scan wouldn’t be cool without tailor-made advise for the target group. And for the exporters who don’t like to read reports, we also made some cool movies.
