Strategic aquaculture study on behalf of Indonesia’s Ministry of maritime affairs and fisheries
On behalf of Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), and supported by SECO / UNIDO, Globally Cool performed an extensive study to determine:
- Where the global aquaculture market is heading and what the projections and drivers are.
- What potential markets there are that will enable the growth of Indonesian aquaculture?
Part 1 of this study consisted of an analysis to identify:
- Who are the main producing markets?
- What are the main aquaculture species?
- Which species show interesting growth?
- What are white spot species (i.e. which non-traditional species show interesting growth)?
- Which species have the highest potential?
- What drivers will impact the future of aquaculture?
- What strategies the biggest aquaculture countries/Indonesia's competitors are following?
Following this initial analysis, we continued with step 2, during which we:
- Identified the main trends in shrimp, tilapia, milkfish and clarias, leading aquaculture fish species in Indonesia.
- Identified the main global markets for these species and assessed their growth.
- Assessed the position of Indonesia vis-a-vis the main competitors.
- Identified the opportunities for Indonesia.
Based on the findings concrete advice was given to the Ministry about which products and markets to prioritise for exports.
