Market intelligence services in Myanmar
The Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar created a National Export Strategy in 2015 to restore the balance of trade. As part of this wider export strategy, Onno Roukens and Aleksandar Jovanovic from Globally Cool assisted with trade promotion. Trade promotion can help a company put their resources to good use and connect with international counterparts. It can also assist them in gaining access to new international markets, and operating in a competitive environment abroad.
Our latest project in Myanmar focuses on market intelligence services. We were asked to identify eight potential Myanmar export products / potential EU markets. Together with a great team from the Trade Development Programme we conducted several workshops to create and implement a new EU Helpdesk Strategy.
To identify the main products with export potential we conducted research and interviewed relevant sector associations. We also talked to additional public and private sector stakeholders for confirmation and to gain new product ideas.
Purchasing manger of the largest mung been company in Europe.
” I have to say that I’m amazed by the fact that you manage to write such a high quality report after a short period of studying on mung beans…”
The top ten products we selected included honey, fermented tea and cashew nuts. For every one of these product we created a marketing information factsheet. The three most promising products are mung beans, organic green tea and frozen shrimp. For those products we created Export promotion guides with our international team . We are confidant the factsheets and the Export promotion guides will help exporters penetrate the European markets.
The whole project has been an amazing team effort and we hope to see a lot of Myanmar products in Europe the coming years.
