Part 1 of this study consisted of an analysis to identify:

  • Who the main producing markets are.
  • What the main aquaculture species are.
  • Which species show interesting growth.
  • What white spot species there are (i.e. which non-traditional species show interesting growth).
  • Which species have the highest potential.
  • What drivers will impact the future of aquaculture.
  • What strategies the biggest aquaculture countries/Indonesia’s competitors are following.

Following this initial analysis, we continued with step 2, during which we:

  • Identified the main trends in shrimp, tilapia, milkfish and clarias, leading aquaculture fish species in Indonesia.
  • Identified the main global markets for these species and assessed their growth.
  • Assessed the position of Indonesia vis-a-vis the main competitors.
  • Identified the opportunities for Indonesia.

Based on the findings concrete advice was given to the Ministry about which products and markets to prioritise for exports.
