Jamaican products are rich in culture, quality, and authenticity, but many local businesses still find it hard to reach customers abroad. That’s why the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) partnered with Globally Cool. Our job? To help the JBDC team make its online store, Things Jamaican, a strong and professional e-commerce platform that supports local makers and connects them with global buyers.
Analysing the situation and setting priorities
We started with a full review of Things Jamaican’s digital platforms, including its website, social media, and branding. Focus groups and strategy sessions helped us understand the team’s needs and customer expectations. Based on these insights, we built a clear, tailored digital marketing strategy.
Building skills through training
We ran 10 workshops on digital marketing and e-commerce, followed by 3 Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions. These helped JBDC staff build confidence in areas like email marketing, SEO, content planning, and campaign tracking. With new skills, the team can now train MSMEs on how to grow their online presence.
Clearer branding, greater reach
By sharpening its brand message and segmenting its audiences—diaspora shoppers, Caribbean suppliers, and international buyers—the Things Jamaican team can now communicate with greater focus and purpose. Their new approach to storytelling and supplier visibility creates a deeper connection with customers.
And the journey continues! We are now supporting the Things Jamaican team in strengthening their Monitoring and Evaluation practices to ensure long-term impact and continued success. By tracking the right data and gaining deeper insights, the team can make informed decisions to optimise their e-commerce platform, better serve their audiences, and amplify the reach of Jamaica’s authentic local products on the global stage.
