To spur export growth in the fruits and vegetable sector in Lebanon, Globally Cool experts Onno and Alfons were commissioned by CBI to coach actors in the chain. The project started in 2020 and runs until 2024. So, what’s the deal one year after the start?
Onno has started to work with the Ministry of Economy and Trade to set up the ‘Lebtrade’, enabling market intelligence supply for the Lebanese corporate sector. Together with cool team members Warner and Esmée, Onno is coaching employees of the Ministry of Economy and Trade to make the most out of the Lebtrade trade intelligence portal. This involves data analysis, processing market access information, and gaining feedback from buyers and CBI experts.
This part of the project consists of two phases: Phase one is all about developing the portal itself. Phase two, starting now, entails developing market information products so exporters can select the most promising markets for their produce.
At the same time, we are using the market information in a task force. Part of the team are the four Chambers of Commerce (Industry and Agriculture), the Ministry of Economy and Trade, and the Investment Development Authority of Lebanon (IDAL). Alfons and our newest team member, Luz Maria, are working on a Sector Export Promotion Plan for this part of the project. A kick-off marked the start of phase two, and in the following months, more sessions will be organised to compose a joint strategy on export development and promotion. To be continued!
