Launching of a unique Trade Portal in Ghana
In November of 2017 GEPA launched a unique project in Ghana. Globally Cool developed a trade information portal and market hub that connects the Ghanaian business community to international markets. This market hub should contribute to a long-term, sustainable solution via strategic partnerships and sponsoring.
The development and launch of this ground breaking project was financed by Swiss SECO and implemented by UNIDO to uplift value chains within GEPA. Our all-round team at Globally Cool used all of our expertise during this project.
During the creation of this portal we identified some key success factors.
“ SECO is the federal government’s centre of expertise for all core issues relating to economic policy. Its aim is to ensure sustainable economic growth by putting in place the necessary regulatory and economic policy conditions.”
“The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), is a specialised agency within the United Nations. Its primary objective is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Member States.”
The hub is a cool tool for Ghanaian companies to find potential markets and help them grow their international business. Although all information about import and export in Ghana was available offline before the portal was built, (potential) exporters had a very difficult time finding the information they needed. Now, the trade information portal and market hub seamlessly connect the Ghanaian business community to international markets!
Embedding the market hub within GEPA
We have not only created a portal that unlocks information, but we have embedded the portal within GEPA! This will ensure the sustainability of the project and allow the portal to continue to grow and add value.
trade information – market intelligence reports on export performance, competitors and potential markets
trade facilitation – information about rules, regulations, incentives, etc.
exporter toolkit – manuals, guides, self assessments, etc.
trade news and events
Financial sustainability of the market hub
The market hub is an important tool for the Ghanaian economy. To ensure the hub will continue to grow and make it financially sustainable, it needs third party income. This additional funding is used to hire additional researchers and content managers.
